IPhone 6 Plus Suffers A Crushing Defeat At The Hands of Motorola Droid Turbo

by GH Staff

Within minutes of its release, Motorola Droid Turbo had been labelled the most phenomenal phones to hit the smartphone market. And within days Motorola Droid Turbo had dethroned iPhone 6Plus as the reigning king of the smartphone industry. Unarguably the best smartphone to be launched in a while, the Motorola Droid Turbo could only have faced competition from a few high-end phones like the iPhone 6Plus and Nexus 6. But its package of excellent features, combined with the latest android OS, an unmatched processor speed and an unbelievably long lasting battery, the Droid Turbo has ensured that its going to stay on top of the list for a long time.

Display and Design

Apple’s iPhone 6Plus had gone a completely new way with curvier models as opposed to the flat screens of the previous ones. Motorola, on the other hand, decided to stick with the tradition Droid phone design with a flat screen and only slightly rounded edges. This design seems to work well for the exceptional display resolution that Droid offers. With a 5.2 inch screen and a QHD Amoled display, the Droid has a resolution of 1440 x 2560 or 565 ppi. On the contrary, the iPhone 6Plus has a display resolution of 1080×1920 pixels which is far lesser than what the Droid offers. The Droid weighs 176 gms which is marginally more than 6Plus which weighs 172 gms. The added weight is only probably because of the large battery inside the phone.

 Hardware

The Droid Turbo is powered by a Snapdragon 805 quad core processor which clocks in a speed of 2.7 GHz. In comparison to this magnificent processor, the iPhone 6Plus runs on a 64 bit A8 chip and a 2.1 GHz processor speed. Droid Turbo hosts a 3 GB RAM with internal storage options of 32 GB or 64 GB but with no scope for expansion. Though iPhone 6Plus offers external storage expansion upto 128 GB, it has only a 2 GB RAM which significantly lowers the processor speed and the general fluidity of the functioning of the device.

Operating System

The Droid Turbo enjoys a smooth, widget-free run on the Android 4.4.4 but has been made compatible to be updated to Android 5.0 which will be made available for this device by December. iPhone 6Plus runs on Apple’s own OS i.e. iOS 8.1.

Camera

The Droid Turbo proudly boasts of a 21 MP camera, a feature which is offered by no other phone in the market today. Some other remarkable features of the camera include panorama, HD recording, slow motion recording, dual LED flash and burst mode. This feature of Droid Turbo completely overshadows the iPhone 6Plus’s 8 MP camera even though it comes with an additional optical image stabilization feature.

Battery

Motorola has sought to completely eradicate the problem of battery drain with a 3900 mAh battery which can support the phone for upto 48 hours. It also comes with a Droid Turbo charger which can recharge the battery in just 15 minutes while a normal charger takes upto an hour for the same.

Price

Inspite of the Motorola Droid Turbo having proven its worth, it is available for $599, a rate cheaper than the 6Plus which is available for $750 for a SIM-free model.
