Is Android KitKat 4.4.3 still coming?

by GH Staff

Despite an onslaught of leaks and rumors early this spring about a potential Android KitKat 4.4.3 update, we still don’t see the update anywhere in sight. Most smartphones have been gradually upgraded to Android KitKat 4.4.2 by now (at least the ones that can handle it properly), but this OS isn’t without its problems. KitKat 4.4.3 would supposedly address many issues, but the update fails to arrive, despite being rumored for release in May or June. We’re in June now, and no official release date has been revealed for Android KitKat 4.4.3.

Back in April, Sprint revealed that a 4.4.3 update was indeed in the works, but the statement quickly vanished from the internet, and we haven’t been hearing anything about it since. The same goes for HTC and Google, who have both been extremely silent and secretive on the issue. Still, hints at Android KitKat 4.4.3 are still emerging here and there. A recent report shows that the OS could be in testing phase for the Samsung Galaxy S5. If there are phones that would certainly receive this update early on, the Samsung Galaxy S5 is definitely a top contender, along with the HTC One M8.

The most likely scenario is that Google will announce solid information about the Android KitKat 4.4.3 Update this month at Google I/O. Still, this didn’t happen last year, as Google focused on other developments and events. Given how high the demand of the Android KitKat 4.4.3 update is however, they’d be wise to appeal to the Android enthusiasts and fans. More and more high-end smartphones and tablets are coming out in the coming months, and those could all represent a solid basis for launching the new update. The Nexus 8 could be a potential candidate, and so could LG’s LG G3. As all eyes are shifting towards Apple and the launch of the iPhone 6 (or at least an official announcement), Android fans are still hoping to see KitKat 4.4.3 launched.

The update isn’t cancelled, so at least there’s that. But there’s some extra waiting to be done, and when exactly it’s bound to come out remains to be seen.
