Nintendo has been at the forefront of so many innovative devices and features, and is looking to expand its horizons even further.  Its first new idea stems from a patent the company issued with the US patent office.  This patent would allow for Nintendo to start utilizing software in a way that would allow 2D images to be displayed in 3D.  Nintendo has already achieved gaming three-dimensionally with its 3DS.  One of the cool things about the 3DS is that you don’t always have to play in 3D.  If you never got around to getting an earlier model of the DS console, you can still play those DS games on the 3DS.  Granted, it won’t be in 3D, but the graphics will be a lot brighter!  You can even toggle on or off the 3D feature which is most helpful if you don’t have a full charge since playing in 3D drains the battery faster.

The patent that Nintendo filed for would allow them to create a different kind of 3D gaming experience.  Rather than the usual trick of projecting a different image for each eye to see and letting your brain compensate and allow you to see in 3D, this new idea would feature technology that would be able to track your actions and respond accordingly. Motion tracking technology on Galaxy S4  This idea is similar to features that newer mobile devices have.  The main difference is that depending on where your eyes would be focused with the gaming aspect, the images in the front and background of the game would adjust to accommodate the player and what they’re trying to do.  The third dimension is created by the game’s background moving at a slower pace than where the player’s eyes are focusing on.

The patent also included another idea for the company to work on.  “Smell is a very strong sense.  There may be some ways to produce aromas for a very strong experience.”  It has been greatly hinted that Nintendo will look into features that allow air to be blown onto the player to provide a somewhat more realistic experience, as well as ways to incorporate various smells as well.  Imagine playing a cooking game and not only having the opportunity to see the end result in 3D, but being able to smell it as well!  Or perhaps you’re playing an adventure game and can feel the breeze and smell the fresh air around you.
