Last week, it was already a foregone conclusion that Satya Nadella would be named as the Chief Executive Officer of Microsoft. There were also reports that the company could be moving co-founder Bill Gates to a different position. Both rumors are true and replacing Gates as Microsoft chairman will be John Thompson.
Bill Gates will now be a technology adviser and would therefore have more input on the company’s new products. “Satya’s asked me to step up, substantially increasing the time that I spend at the company,” Gates said in a video statement. “I’ll have over a third of my time available to meet with product groups. It’ll be fun to define this next round of products, working together.”
Nadella is the third CEO of the company following the footsteps of co-founders Bill Gates and outgoing CEO Steve Ballmer.
