Former star of Dexter under her real name Jennifer Carpenter is going to work together with the executive producer of Dexter Sara Colleton, in developing a new series under the name Death Class for NBC. Death Class is an adaption of the book Death Class: A True Story about Life. This book was written by Erika Hayaski ex journalist of Los Angeles Times. The book is about the college professor who is offering the course focused about death.
The Death Class plot is about Norma Bowe, a nurse who decided to teach about death in the college in New Jersey. Bowe was not expecting that the class can be popular and she continued to teach for many years. However, instead of being interested about death, the students become interested in how to enjoy more their lives and to discover the purpose they have in the world while taking a course.
Hollywood Reporter had stated that Carpenter started with this idea about bringing this book on the small screen in April this year. Universal Television and NBC decided to sponsor the series. However, by now, it is not expected that Jennifer is going to star in the NBC drama but she is going to produce the Death Class together with her former co-worker, Sara Colleton. The two people are now looking for someone who can work on the series plot.
In addition of producing Death Class, Jennifer Carpenter had signed to play in the Stanistan with USA Network. She will have a role of spin doctor of US government with this new drama.
However, Carpenter will not star in this adaptation of the movie. Carpenter was playing as Debra Morgan in Dexter and she was a sister for a serial killer for six seasons. She got four nominations for Screen Actor Guild Awards for the good performance she showed in the series. Carpenter become noticed first when she played a frightening performance in the horror movie, The Exorcism of Emily Rose in 2005.
In the movie, the students will be eager to discuss more about death while seeking the comfort in the class at the same time, they want to get the most out of their lives. With the success of Dexter, there are all indications that the movie will also be a success. Carpenter with Stelzener had optioned the rights for this book from the writer Erika Hayasaki and the book was published under Simon and Schuster in January.
Carpenter said the following about the movie: The teacher Norma Bowe, a registered nurse and PH.D who was teaching the students on how to prepare themselves for death. Bowe tried to explore death without fear and her approach helped students and others on how to come to terms with the reality of death. For Carpenter, she was happy about the dynamic force of Norma with a world which is textured and rich. Her work was life affirming and redemptive. She said that the movie is going to be successful because the content of the book has good fertile ground which will be used for the series.
