While at the Metal Gear Solid 5 press conference, Hideo Kojima discussed the recent “P.T” teaser game that revealed the upcoming Silent Hill game and has also expressed his thoughts on the Horror Game Industry.
Kojima claims that when working on the P.T teaser game he wanted the last puzzle to be extremely difficult, he says “I expected it to take a week to solve…I was surprised it took less than one day.” he then goes on to say that even with the fast completion, the P.T teaser was a success and as intended had brought the internet together to unite and work out the puzzle leading to the Silent Hills reveal teaser.
The making of P.T had been intentionally “Dumbed Down” graphically in order to throw fans of track and make the game look like it had came from an indie studio or something smaller, Kojima continues to say that he did include one secret in the P.T teaser, the studio name “7780s” which is actually the area of Japan’s Shizuoka prefecture 7780 square kilometers, and one translation for the words “Silent Hill” in Japanese is Shizuoka…sneaky Kojima.
Towards the end of the talk, Kojima states that he feels “Developers are afraid to make horror games too scary, as it could potentially alienate the audience by giving them to much to handle…” he then says that he is ignoring that for Silent Hills, as when he first started to the game the goal was to make you “Pee your pants” now however Kojima is aiming to make you “Sh*t Your Pants…”
