Long time publishers at Konami attempted to join the mobile gaming craze as Chain of Souls went live on the App Store. It’s your modern puzzle-battle game with a combination of cards and routine tactics. It’ll fuse both genres; allowing the player to draw a specific card once the puzzle has been completed. Your objective is to match three or more runes to form a “chain,” hence the game’s name, and amplify the power of your attacks; becoming more devastating to your various opponents. The more articulate you manage to pull off the ‘puzzle’ fraction of the game, the easier the card-battle will play in your favor.
That all sounds easy enough, but the cards you’ll be able to draw after linking at least three or more chains will prompt the tactical ‘battle’ side of Chain of Souls. These cards come in an assortment of effects and factions. Meaning, if one card has a relation (like a similar element or image) it’ll boost its power appropriately; adding yet another angle to an already intriguing concept. It’ll also feature online raids with friends, exclusive battles with dragons, and combined skills alongside its implied “dark fantasy” theme.
And best of all, it’s completely free on iTunes.
It definitely appears to be addictive; but since Hearthstone launched, will it be enough?
