Kung Lao Confirmed for Mortal Kombat X

The next character announcement for NetherRealm Studios’ Mortal Kombat X has leaked online, with it confirming that the former Shaolin monk Kung Lao will be making his return to the franchise.

According to a post on the Test Your Might forum, the character was revealed in the latest issue of a Finnish magazine called ‘Pelaaja,’ and in one of the images it shows an aged Kung Lao — wearing a razor-shaped hat instead of his usual circular one — surrounded by Goro, Raiden and Quan Chi.

Mortal Kombat X creative director Ed Boon has also confirmed the three character variations that Kung Lao will have, while suggesting that he’s one of the most diverse fighters in the title’s 24-character roster.

Listed below are the three character variations for Kung Lao (which Test Your Might user Raider translated from the magazine):

  • Tempest: Kung Lao uses more spinning attacks and has the ability to set his hat to spin around him as a shield of sorts.
  • Buzz Saw: In this variation his hat is sharpened with razor blade edges and allows the player to control his hat throws more.
  • Hat Trick: This is the most experimental of the three, because you can throw and call back your hat at any point you want. This keeps the opponent on their toes, because the hat can extend combos.

With Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Raiden, Kano and Quan Chi already confirmed for Mortal Kombat X, Kung Lao takes his place as the sixth returning fighter from the Mortal Kombat series.

Meanwhile, Ferra/Torr, Cassie Cage, Kotal Kahn and D’Vorah are four brand-new fighters being introduced in Mortal Kombat X.

Earlier this month, GamesMaster magazine announced that it would be revealing details on the multiplayer mode and a new character for Mortal Kombat X in their January issue. With this being said, it could be likely that the new information GamesMaster is set to reveal is similar to what Pelaaja published in their latest issue.

Running at 1080p and 60fps, Mortal Kombat X will launch on April 14th, 2015 for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.

Unfortunately, Gamer Headlines can’t post the images of Kung Lao here — mainly for the reason that they’ve been scanned straight from a magazine — but you can check them out by heading on over to the Test Your Might forum.
