Earlier today it was announced in a League of Legends forum post that Riot Games, the developer of League of Legends, had been exploring additional ways to help improve the player experience within Ranked Play.

It was explained that after successfully testing out a new feature on PBE [Public Beta Environment] they would now begin implementing something called Ranked Restrictions on live servers in both NA and EU.

Ranked Restrictions prevents negative, poorly behaved players from joining ranked queues and restricts their in-game chat. For Ranked Restricted players, Chat Restriction will also be enforced in other queues. Ranked Restricted players who are still placed under restriction at the end of the season will also be ineligible to earn end of season rewards.

In order to have these restrictions lifted, Ranked Restricted players must complete a required number of games, after which their behavior will be evaluated. If the player has shown improvement, the restrictions will be lifted. If not, they will remain a Ranked Restricted player.

It was also explained in the forum post that most players would not be affected by this new feature, however Riot wanted to give players who are “concerned about their behavior” ample time readjust their behavior before the season ends.
