League of Legends’ 6v6 gamemode “Hexakill” has been removed from the game’s list of Game Modes, as announced on the official League of Legends website. As part of Riot Games’ Featured Gameplay Modes, Hexakill was introduced to the game roughly two weeks ago, and was announced a little before then. Hexakill’s time on League of Legends lasted from February 20 until yesterday (Sunday), March 2.
Hexakill was basically Summoner’s Rift with the addition of another champion on your and your opponent’s team. Summoner’s Rift is traditionally a 5v5 gamemode, with the highest multi-kill achievable being the Pentakill. With Hexakill, it was a 6v6 setup, with the much sought after Hexakill as the gamemode’s highest multi-kill. With the addition of another teammate, Hexakill opened up new doors to different tactics, strategies and opportunities, and I would say it became almost a very different beast in terms of its meta. Typically, Summoner’s Rift 5v5 setup allows for either the 2-1-2 or the 1-1-1-2 formula, which allows for two players in the Top-lane, one in the Mid-lane and two in the Bot-lane, or one in Top, one as a Jungler, one in Mid, and two in Bot. With Hexakill, a lot more roles could be taken on thanks to the sixth player, such as a Romaing Support, two ADCs, two Junglers, two Top and one Jungler, and so on.
Personally, I really enjoyed Hexakill, and I would really like to see it implemented again. Before Hexakill, Riot implemented the One For All gamemode, which allowed your team to play as the same champion, something that was previously impossible, as each team member could only play as one champion each. Now that Hexakill is down, it’ll be only some time before Riot absorb the feedback from Hexakill and come up with something else.
On another note, Riot has opened up League of Legends’ new Team Builder for a very brief period of time, a new feature designed to improve teamwork and allow them members to pick and choose what role they would like, instead of hoping everything goes smoothly or bicker and argue over nothing.
