LG G3 Mini in the works, coming later this year

by GH Staff

Just like Samsung, Sony or HTC, LG understands that for some smartphone users, size isn’t everything. Many prefer a portable, smaller and lighter device that’s easy to fit into a pocket, and that’s also generally cheaper than the larger counterpart. Rumors about an LG G3 Mini have surfaced before (back in April), but we now finally have some solid leaks that would suggest that LG is indeed prepping the LG G3 Mini.

The regular LG G3 comes with a 5.5 inch impressive display. While the phone is official and has been launched in Asia, it’s not available just yet in Western countries. The LG G3 is said to be released on the 25th of July, and an LG G3 Mini variant will follow this fall. LG did launch the LG G2 Mini this year, after enjoying success with the LG G2 launched in 2013. However, most carriers didn’t pick up the LG G2 Mini, and the phone is rather hard to come by. This might not be the case with the LG G3, as the company understands the appeal for smaller, more affordable versions of the original flagship. The LG G3 is a solid candidate for the best smartphone of the year title, and as such, a lot of people will likely want to grab it or a smaller version of it.

As for what we can expect from the LG G3 Mini, the leaks suggest considerably tuned-down hardware. The phone will have a 4.5 inch screen running at 720p, coupled with a 1.2 GHz Quad-Core CPU, 1 GB of RAM and 8 or 16 GB of internal storage, with microSD support. The camera will be similar to the one found in the Google Nexus 5. The battery will also be tuned down to a 2100 mAh one, but that’s going to suffice for a smaller, less powerful phone. Definitely not a top of the line model, but no Mini ever is (well, perhaps the Sony Xperia Z1 Compact). The price will reflect the diminished specs though, and it’s likely that the LG G3 Mini will be available for $350-400 at launch.

So far, there’s no indication as to when the LG G3 Mini will arrive, and for what countries/carriers, but it’s probable that major carriers around the world will be offering it in October or November. We’ll just have to wait and see. How does this phone sound to you?
