LG G3 officially revealed, possibly best Android phone of 2014

I’m going to be up-front about it, Samsung hasn’t impressed me in awhile. When there are so many insanely good alternatives (often for a lot less), it’s just hard to look at the same-old, dull Samsung Galaxy S design and be impressed. Sure, in all fairness, the Samsung Galaxy S5 is a great phone, there’s no doubt about it, and Samsung still provides one of the best UI’s for Android. But the HTC One M8 is equally good. And then there’s the Xperia Z2. Plenty of options. And we haven’t even gotten to LG and it’s latest phones. Last year’s LG G2 impressed everyone, critics and consumers alike. It was affordable and absolutely fantastic. Not only was it fast, but it also had one of the best battery lives on the mobile market.

So, naturally, LG had to step up it’s game even more if it wanted to continue to impress with the LG G3. The phone aiming for a 2014 release was facing extremely high expectations. It has finally been officially revealed, and it seems to meet said expectations, and then some. Granted, the LG G3 has a plastic casing, but it’s a high-quality, sturdy, brushed one. And the phone looks amazing, with the screen taking up most of the phone’s actual size. Nothing seems to intrude between the user and the phone’s impressive screen. Which is a 1440p one, if you were wondering. That’s right, a True HD-IPS+LDC, 5.5 inch screen, running at a resolution of 2560×1440 pixels and, wait for it, 534 PPI. Not much more you could ask for from a mobile phone.

On the hardware side, we’ll be getting the best of the best, and that shouldn’t surprise anyone. In fact, today’s best is probably way too much than is necessary in reality. 3GB of Ram, 32GB of internal storage space (with microSD support, of course), a 2.5 GHz Quad-Core Snapdragon 801 CPU and an Adreno 330 GPU are all bundled up nicely. But hardware isn’t where the LG G3 will innovate. It’s the software LG prides itself in, and LG has been working extensively at refining what is said to be the best personal assistant app on a smartphone. Another feature that really intrigues is the simplistic, yet effective UI. For once, someone seems to get the principle of ‘less is more’, and this is exactly what LG is going for with the LG G3.

The last major aspect to mention is LG’s camera. While on paper it doesn’t seem extremely impressive (it’s ‘just 13 MP’), it features a new laser autofocus feature that greatly improves photo shooting capabilities. How well this feature actually performs remains to be seen in June, when the phone is set for release, but since it’s the first phone in the world to feature this technology, we can expect something impressive. All in all, the LG G3 seems to improve all aspects of the previous LG G2, and that’s not an easy feat to pull off successfully. This is certainly a phone to keep an eye on.
