Half Life 3 will not be SteamOS exclusive: Valve

by GH Staff

It has been a long time that the video game consoles are offering exclusive games, which can’t be played anywhere else. Like Mario on Nintendo and Sonic on Sega. Same is the case with Halo; it can only be played on Microsoft platforms. However, Valve the proud developer of Half Life, Team Fortress and Dota 2 is about to move to a whole new level. The company is planning to introduce Steam Machines in 2014.

Valve’s public relations expert Doug Lombardi has said that they are against putting the games in jail by making them limited to only one platform. He was talking to The Verge. He said that although the games perform best on Steam Machines, however it’s not the right way to make the games exclusive. It’s not our style. He added. He also regretted the decision of making Half Life 2 exclusive to the digital platform.

The promotion of an open platform can limit SteamOS, keeping in mind the fact that PC gamers are huge in numbers. Anna Sweet of Valve said that the company is trying hard for Linux gaming and many of the companies are willing to support Valve. It sounds a bit weird as the console buyers will be waiting for developers to accept Linux in such a scenario. Valve has explained that SteamOS will ship with Steam Machines.

Now coming back to Half Life 3, as you all know the curiously awaited sequel of the game is still in news and rumors. The company hasn’t announced anything about the game yet. The first of them Half Life was released back in 1998 than in 1999, 2001, 2004, 2006 and the last one in 2007. Most of them were the parts of Half Life 2.  It wouldn’t be wrong, if I say that Half Life is actually the signature game of Valve, as no other game by the company reached such heights of fame and popularity.  Somehow after 2007’s Half Life 2: Episode three, it felt like the company is not interested in developing a new sequel of the game as they stood silent over. But the fans have something now to cheer up; Gaming Bolt has news that half Life isn’t completely dead. Valve has formed up two teams of developers for Half Life 3.

Society and Religion magazines claims that the reason behind no talking about Half Life 3 is that Valve doesn’t want to be recognized as only Half Life game developers. They want a change in their Brand Identity.  Perhaps the company wants to shut down the half Life factory? So I predict that the game will be the last of its kind. Some video game forums claim to have official and authentic news about the sequel but one can’t trust them without the official confirmation. Whatever the situation is, fans are desperately waiting for news about the game. In fact they love rumors too.
