Ever since Half-Life captured the imagination of an entire generation of gamers, the world has wanted one thing (besides more Half-Life games): a Half-Life film. Thus, that is exactly what Chariotdrive and Infectious Designer are hoping to give the world via upcoming live action film The Freeman Chronicles – and they need your help!
If you have never heard of these guys, they have made quite a few awesome short films based on video game franchises such as Watch Dogs, Killzone, and of course the Half-Life franchise. The trailer for The Freeman Chronicles can also be viewed on their Kickstarter page, and with one viewing one thing becomes incredibly evident: if there is any team that can do justice to the Half-Life universe while creating an awesome, live-action film full of action and suspense, it’s these guys.
“We have a core story around Gordon Freeman, our protagonist, and the Commander of the HECU unit as the main antagonist, filled with terrifying monsters from Xen and ruthless HECU soldiers. It fits right in between Gordon reaching the surface and heading to the Lambda complex…you get to experience a sort of lost episode from the video game,” reads the description on Chariotdrive’s Kickstarter page.
Want more great news? The campaign actually exceeded its initial funding, and with 15 days to go, it’s all bonus from here! The guys definitely have an idea regarding stretch goals. If the campaign reaches $25,000, the film will get some much warranted ‘Vort Love.’ According to the campaign’s page:
“If we reach $25,000 we will buy a special crystal that we can use to open up a portal to Xen. From there we will grab a couple or Vortigaunts and bring them back to earth to use in the movie. If they’re willing of course. If not we will use some special effects wizardry to create them instead. Either way you will be seeing Vort if we raise over $25,000.”
Of course, the more funding these guys get the better, as it will allow them to improve the production value of the film and create a compelling, awesome film that Half-Life fans have been wanting for nearly a decade and a half. If you’re remotely interested in seeing the best live action Half-Life film possible, throw a few bucks their way, as they will not only appreciate it, but additionally deserve it.
