Loadout, the often outrageous, frantically fun multiplayer shooter, is getting some updates. The free to play title, developed by studio Edge of Reality, is often compared to Team Fortress 2, but with the welcome addition of a well-developed and extensive weapon customisation system. At the moment of writing, there are a few issues with balancing that I have experienced, both with weapons and the matchmaking itself. At this early stage however that’s to be expected, and Loadout is a game I’ve really enjoyed. I think has a lot of potential. It’s good news then that the developers have released a statement detailing the planned updates.
Loadout’s Planned Features:
The major changes coming to Loadout include a new map, game modes and parts for weapons, allow for even greater customisation to your taste and play-style. Loadout currently features a number of game modes, including traditional deathmatch, capture the hammer (Loadout doesn’t do flags) and King of the Hill. Edge of Reality are also working on a number of other updates, such as the ability to join friends halfway through matches, cutting down waiting times in lobbies, as well as weapon balancing, steam achievements and general bug fixes. They also have a number of other planned features that will arrive slightly later, including private games with eight-player parties, and more ranked playlists. They stress however that these features may take a little longer to be introduced and may not be released simultaneously.
The developers have also encouraged the community to provide feedback and suggestions, pointing players towards the Loadout forums if they have any particular features they’d like to see put into the game. I’m a big fan of this kind of interactivity between developers and players, and hopefully Edge of Reality will receive some helpful and constructive ideas to improve Loadout in the future.
