With all the new releases, it is hard to keep up and decide which one is betters. Buyers have their choices of the Samsung or Apple? The Android or the iOS 8? 16MP camera or 8MP camera? Between the different brands, there are many differences that rely on their strengths of brand notoriety in order to convince mobile users to buy their devices. So we decided to make it a little easier by seeing how Samsung’s Galaxy S5 and Samsung’s Galaxy Note 4 stack up against Apple’s newest iPhones.
Designs
It is not much difference between the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus because they look exactly alike except for their size. Both phones come with a slick design, in which are made from anodized aluminum; front panel made from Corning Gorilla Glass 3 (not shatterproof), and oleophobic coated treating. Samsung however offers buyers a little variety between the Galaxy Note 4 and the Galaxy S5. The Galaxy S5 comes with a polycarbonate shell with perforated dots, while the back panel made of faux leather covers the Galaxy Note 4. Critics and fans of Apple believe they have a more superior look while Samsung fans believe their phones blow Apple out the water.
Displays
The iPhones comes with IPS LCD LED-backlit displays while the Samsung devices each is equipped with Super AMOLED displays. In the case of considering the new iPhone 6 Plus a phablet, its screen measures 5.5 inch display, with 1080 x 1920 resolution and pixel density of 401 ppi. While the Galaxy Note 4 has a display at 5.7 inches, a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels, and pixel density of 515ppi. The Apple iPhone 6 has a display of 4.7 inches and a resolution of 750 x 1334 pixels, with a pixel density of past iPhones of 326 ppi. Apple promises a better experience for viewing but based on these measurements it is pure dreaming. The Galaxy S5 on the other hand 5.1 inch display is Full HD with 1080 x 1920 resolution, and 432ppi pixel density that surely will leave users impressed. It is clear that Samsung has a better display over Apple iPhones.
Hardware
For Apple, each of their iPhone 6 models is powered by their two core A8 processor, at 1.4GHz speed, it is combined with a PowerVR GX6450 GPU. On the hand, Samsung offers two different performances with the Galaxy S5 clocked at 2.5GHz on the quad-core Krait 400 with a Qualcomm MSM8974AC Snapdragon 801 chipset. The Galaxy Note 4 also runs on quad-core processor powered by the Krait 450 clocked at 2.7GHz, and combined with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 chipset which gives it a more powerful performance. Apple’s chip is based on 64-bit architecture while Samsung utilizes the 32-bit architecture.
For the iPhone 6 models they have RAM of 1Gb which are offered on their 128GB, 64GB, and 16GB of internal memory capacity variants. Where it disappoints is the lack of option of a microSD card slot for expandable memory. Samsung Galaxy S5 is offered in 16GB and 32GB variants, while Galaxy Note 4 is offered in 32GB but allows for microSD card slot for up to 128GB expandable memory.
Operating System
Of course, Samsung models are both Android-based. However, the Galaxy S5 operates on KitKat v4.4.2, and the Note 4 operates on the KitKat v4.4.4. Apple provides their latest models with their iOS 8, coupled with the hurried 8.0.2 update, which provides unique features for a more attractive experience.
Cameras
Samsung sparked much buzz for offering their Galaxy S5 with a rear camera with 16MP, and it is much rumored that the Galaxy Note 4 will have the same 16MP and resolution, but with optical image stabilization. iPhone 6 Plus has optical image stabilization also, but the rear camera is only 8MP, similar to their iPhone 5. While the Samsung devices only have single LED flash, the iPhones offer dual-LED flash.
Batteries
Much like other iPhones, the newest editions still do not offer removable batteries for their iPhone 1810mAh, and iPhone 6 Plus 2915mAH batteries. The Samsung devices offer removable batteries for their S5’s 2800mAh battery, and their 3220mAh phablet battery.
Prices
While prices for each device will set you back, with a two-year contract for the 16GB of iPhone 6 will cost around $299. While the 16GB Galaxy S5 on Amazon is priced at $520 with no contract. The Galaxy Note 4 is rumored to cost $845, but will probably be cheaper with a two-year traditional contract, much like the iPhone 6 Plus.
