All the way back in 2012, Valve released the last of their TF2 charcter intro shorts, Meet The Pyro, along a revolutionary and easy to use CGI film maker for fans to make their own. Valve said that this wasn’t the end though, and that they were working on a cript for a full 15 minute short movie to be released in the future. Two years later and that movie is finally here, in the form of the hilarious and heartfelt new short entitled ‘Expiration Date’. To save you all from hunting it down online, I’ve embedded the video below for y’all. You’re welcome.
According to Valve head honcho Gabe Newell, the flick has taken 6 months to produce, and was made using the same Source Filmmaker tools released by the company two years ago. Outstanding, some would say, considering the Pixar levels of quality that went into it. And as well as the returning cast from the previous ‘Meet The’ shorts, Valve have also managed to bring in Ashley Burch of ‘Hey Ash, Whatcha Playin?’ fame to bring life to the franchises first female mercenary, Miss Pauline. Will Polly return as anew playable character, or as a non-playable escort like the old civilian class from the Team Fortress Classic days? Who knows. I just think it’s nice that Scout has a love interest other than the creepily similar looking Fem-Scout.
And the fun doesn’t stop there! The release of the video marks the start of Valve’s new ‘Love and War’ update to the game, which will be your typical 3 day staged tease affair. There’s been no new weapons or maps yet, just a couple of new party themed two-people taunts featuring new voice samples. But who knows where it can go from here? Keep your eyes peeled for whatever fun things come with tomorrow’s update right here.
