Going over today’s smart devices it’s always a good idea to compare it to another smart device. Today we go over the two smart devices to see which out performs who, going over the design, display, sound, camera and battery life. Getting into as much detail as we can from processors to graphics to general user experience.
Specs and Design
When it comes to design and specifications, the Nokia Lumia 525 is not that different than the Lumia 520. The body and the size of both smartphones is 119.9 x 64 x 9.9 mm and weight of 124 grams. The processor featured in the devices is also the same – the Qualcomm MSM8227 with a Dual-core 1GHz and backed up with an Adreno 305 GPU. The only noticeable difference between the two smart devices is that the 525 model has 1 GB of RAM, while the 520 one features only 512 MB.
Display and Sound
No difference in the display can be found between the Nokia Lumia 520 and its successor the Lumia 525 as well. Having only 233 ppi pixel density, the 4.0 – inch display is a 800 x 480 pixels IPS LCD capacitive, featuring 16M colors, thus giving a pretty decent picture quality. The sound of the device may not be top-notch, but considering the low price tag of both devices it is more than perfect.
Battery Life
The battery featured in both the Nokia Lumia 525 and the Lumia 520 is 1430 mAh Li-Ion BL-5J. However, due to the removed unnecessary CMOS image sensor, the successor of the 520 model does have a better battery life of 14 days stand-by time, 16.90 hours of talk time and about 10.60 hours of talk time in a 3G network. Although it is not vast of a difference, the extended battery life of the Nokia Lumia 525 may come in handy while on long road trips and is one of the selling points of the smart device.
Camera
The 5MP camera featured in the Nokia Lumia 525 and the Lumia 520 provides users with crisp high quality photos and 720p 30fps videos, due to the Nokia Smart Camera Cinemagraph lens, the Panorama lens and the Bing vision additions. A nice upgrade to the 525 model would have been a front camera for video conferencing, but as its predecessor, the device does not feature one.
Overall
The Nokia Lumia 525 is a decent Windows 8 Phone and due to its availability through different retailers at pretty low prices may be the perfect smartphone for you. However, if you are able to purchase or already have the Lumia 520, you should reconsider your decision to upgrade to its successor as the only noticeable differences are its battery life and the 1GB of RAM memory.
