Earlier today, Xbox’s Larry Hyrb (better known to the community as Major Nelson) showed off the first ever Twitch broadcast from the Xbox One while confirming numerous aspects of the upcoming feature. The Twitch App was showcased using the new title Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare.

Hyrb confirmed that streaming via Twitch will run at a nice and smooth 1280x720p resolution at 30 frames per second. It will also use a connection speed of approximately 2.5 mbps. This outdoes Twitch streaming on Sony’s PlayStation 4, which only runs at a 960×540 resolution and uses a 1.7 mbps connection.

Hyrb also confirmed that the Twitch App will automatically detect the proper settings for that specific household on its first launch. Speaking of launching the app: it can be done using the traditional method of selecting the option with your controller, or the broadcaster can simply say “Xbox Broadcast”.

Here are some other tidbits of information:

  • Archiving of streams is supported. In contrast, it is not supported on the PS4.
  • Chat and viewer stats are displayed to the broadcaster but are not shown in the stream itself, making for a cleaner interface.
  • Twitch has the power to ban consoles if there is inappropriate content being streamed.

You can expect to see the Twitch App on Xbox One beginning March 11, which happens to the release date for the award-winning shooter Titanfall.
