Minecraft won’t be available for the Playstaion 4, Playstation Vita or Xbox One until August, but in a recent entry to the Playstation Blog has given us details on the PS4’s “Next-gen” Minecraft port.
Before now, all we knew about world sizes was that they would be “a lot bigger” on the Playstation 4 and Xbox One. But, with this blog update, we are finally given specifics, where it is claimed that worlds are 36 times as big when compared to the Playstation 3, definitely a huge improvement for anyone looking forward to Minecraft for the Playstation 4.
And, on top of this, we have also learned that the DualShock 4’s touchpad has been implemented into the Playstation 4’s Minecraft. 4J Studios has added optional touchpad support, allowing players to use their DualShock 4’s touchpad with the crafting and navigation of the menu. According to the blog post, the exact feature that will be exclusive to the Playstation 4 are that “You’ll be able to navigate all the menus (and craft) by using the touchpad and, of course, share and stream your experiences thanks to Playstation 4′s built-in social thingymabobs. It’s all completely optional, so don’t worry if you’re not keen on moving your thumbs or showing off your skills.”
As you may already know, existing owners of Minecraft for the Playstaion 3 will have perks to show thanks for their loyalty. To start, these existing players will be able to import their Playstation 3 save to the Playstation 4 version of Minecraft. The blog post went on to say “Making old saves compatible with the newer versions of the game was priority for Mojang and our trusted developer chums at 4J. We value the loyalty of the Sony fans who bought Minecraft: Playstation 3 Edition last year, and want to make things as simple as possible for any early adopters. “ On top of this, if you bought the digital version of Minecraft for the Playstation 3, you will be able to pick up the upgrade to Minecraft for Playstation 4 for only $4.99 USD. THis deal is the same for those who purchased the digital version of Minecraft for the Xbox 360 and plan to upgrade to the Xbox One copy. And, if you don’t own a Playstation 4, you can stay with Minecraft for the Playstaion 3 and get access to the Playstation Vita version of Minecraft for free. As for those of you opted to get the physical disc version of Minecraft, Mojang says they would like to offer discounts for you, but that is has been “proving a bit trickier to set up,” so we will have to wait for more news on this.
The blog post has also claimed that there will be “a heap of trophies to be earned for the hunters” as well as “a bunch of Sony-specific DLC” slated to come soon after the release of Minecraft for Playstation 4.
It has also been confirmed that Minecraft: Playstation 4 Edition will support up to eight players online, and four of these eight will be able to long in from a single PS4 using split screen.
Minecraft for Playstation 4, Playstation Vita, and Xbox One will release in August of 2014 (No specific release date yet) for $19.99 USD or $4.99 USD if you are upgrading your Playstation 3 or Xbox 360 digital copy.
