There’s nothing stopping Minecraft’s success it seems. Mojang has released information about their sales performance, and the game has sold over 14 million copies already. Back in December 2013, the game had sold an impressive 13 million copies, and it continues to do exceedingly well. With Minecraft rolling out on more and more platforms and constantly getting new content and update, there’s nothing to stop these numbers from growing.
Mojang is not sitting back and relaxing, waiting for Minecraft revenues while sipping cocktails from a coconut-shell though. They are still hard at work, trying to improve player experience in Minecraft. As a result, the upcoming 1.8 release for the game will include a new spectator mode. Here’s the partial change-log, as explained by Mojang:
- Added a spectator gamemode (/gamemode spectator). Not 100% finished.
- Spectators cannot be seen by anybody but other spectators
- Spectators can view inventories/etc, but not modify them
- Spectators can go through any entity or block without interfering with it
- Spectators can click on entities to take their camera
- Spectators cannot use items, place blocks, destroy blocks or interact with blocks in any way
- Spectators are only slightly buggy maybe sometimes
Players will finally be able to spy on others in Minecraft, and perhaps pick off some nifty and original ideas in the process. You can’t sabotage the work of others luckily, so spectating will only be for inspiration’s or curiosity’s sake. A full patch-note for the latest Minecraft patch can be viewed here. We’re curious what else is in store for Minecraft fans this year, and we’re glad to see that revenues from game sales are going right back into the game. Mojang is a highly popular developer for multiple reasons (apart from the obvious reason of creating Minecraft), and this only goes to show that the public trust in the company is well-deserved.
