Minecraft’s first new dimension in over 14 years is called The Sift, and it will make its debut in Minecraft Dungeons II on September 29 before becoming part of Minecraft Java and Bedrock Edition in 2027. The new dimension was first announced at Gamescom and then showcased in more detail during Minecraft LIVE on September 26.
A First Look at The Sift
In the opening stages of Minecraft Dungeons II, strange events begin to upend the natural order of the Overworld. New enemy types appear, souls begin to fly through the world, and players discover that they have stumbled on The Sift. Once inside, players will find an entirely different and colorful new look. The dimension also introduces new mobs, and each one is unique. They appear as both companions and threats.
Shifting tides within The Sift can affect your character and those around you. Hazardous new blocks will alter how you approach exploration, and new environments will put your skills to the test. Mojang has confirmed new biomes including Meadows and Carapace. Other areas are being kept a secret for players to discover when they play Minecraft Dungeons II.
Release and Availability
Mojang is not talking much about how to access The Sift in Minecraft Java and Bedrock Edition or how it will stand out from the Dungeons II expression of it. The team did show a brief in-development look at the new dimension running. That look left more details for later, but it gave players a sense of the dimension in motion. The best way to get a sneak peek at how The Sift will work is to play Minecraft Dungeons II, which will give a taste of its mobs, blocks, and biomes.
Minecraft Dungeons II launches September 29 for Xbox Series X|S and Xbox on PC, and it will be included with Game Pass. It supports Xbox Play Anywhere and is also available on Steam, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2. Future Minecraft LIVE events will provide more information about The Sift and when it will arrive in Minecraft. Mojang has not announced a specific 2027 arrival date.
