One of the most popular games in gaming history, Minecraft, is slowly making its way to the new generation consoles, the PS4 and Xbox One. Both Sony and Microsoft have expressed great interest in having Minecraft on their consoles, and this is a successful approach that we’ve seen skyrocketing on the Xbox 360 and PS3 already.
All eyes are upon 4J Studios, the game developer behind the highly anticipated Title Update 14 (TU14) for Minecraft, an update that not only brings a new level of depth to the popular block-building adventure game, but also signals that the developers are getting ever closer to releasing the Minecraft Xbox One and Minecraft PS4 versions. It seems Microsoft console owners are the luckier gamers this time around, as all evidence suggests the Minecraft Xbox One version will be the first to deploy.
For starters, it’s a known fact that the Minecraft Xbox One version is based heavily on the architecture of the Xbox 360, making it easier for 4J to update to the next-gen console. Less is known about the Mincraft PS4 version. Additionally, a lot of chatter has been going on in the last few hours on Roger Carpenter’s twitter page. If you don’t know who Carpenter is, the gist of it is that he’s the Lead Producer for Minecraft on Xbox 360 and Minecraft on Xbox One. He’s also a liaison between 4J Studios and Microsoft. Here’s what Roger Carpenter had to say when he was asked about the Minecraft Xbox One version today:
@theironfight still working on #minecraftxbox1, we'll share news when there's news to tell. It'll be worth the wait!

The Title Update 14 for Minecraft is also pretty much ready and completed, which means resources are now available to focus entirely on Minecraft Xbox One and Minecraft PS4. The chatter hasn’t been as active on Sony’s end of things though, and it’s likely that the Minecraft PS4 version is still far from completion. Both next-gen console versions of the game will feature larger maps and some improvements to the game’s visual aspects, but don’t expect anything mind-blowing. Minecraft won’t get the full next-gen touch, at least not visually speaking. Still, 4J Studios giving players access to Minecraft on the new Xbox One and PS4 is more than enough to keep us interested.
In any case, we’ve got the Title Update 14 change logs to share now, so for now, enjoy knowing that these improvements will be coming to the Xbox One and PS4 versions of Minecraft too:
