Blackberry and Sony are some of the main players in the mobile phone industry. Both companies have phones that target different markets. In February, the two companies released some exceptional phones, Blackberry Z3 and Sony Xperia M2, both high-end phones and below is a detailed comparison of the two.
Design
These two smartphones, although from different makers, have almost similar dimensions. The blackberry measures 5.51 x 2.87 x 0.36 inches while the Sony is 5.50 x 2.80 by 0.34 inches with a net weight of 148 grams, just 16 grams lighter than the Blackberry.
Display
The Xperia has a 4.8 inch screen while the blackberry boasts of a 5.0 inch screen. They have the same resolution, 540 x 960 pixels with a pixel density that is also very close. Xperia M2 has 229 ppi whereas the Z3 has a decent 220 ppi. Both displays are also equipped with common features such as light and proximity sensors.
Camera
Unlike Blackberry Z3 that has a 5 MP rear camera, the Xperia sports an 8 MP camera that comes with many other features such as digital image stabilization, HDR, self-timer, scenes and smile detection. The two cameras can also record full HD videos and both phones also have front facing cameras.
Hardware and Operating System
Although both phones have Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chipsets, they are quite different. Blackberry Z3 has a dual-core processor running at 1200 MHz while the Xperia is equipped with a quad-core, 1200 MHz processor. Both phones have 8 GB internal memory and Adreno 305 GPU. However, the Blackberry has 1.5 GB RAM, which is 0.5 GB more than M2’s. In terms of their operating system, blackberry stuck with their operating system and gave this phone Blackberry 10 OS whereas the M2 was shipped with android version 4.3 and later received an update to 4.4.2.
Battery
There is also not such a big difference in battery performance between the two smartphones. M2 is packed with a 2300 mAh battery while that of the Blackberry has a capacity of 2600 mAh.
Verdict
These are two very nice phones but the Blackberry does not really live to match Sony Xperia M2’s performance. As a result, the Xperia takes the day.
