The Legend of Zelda, a popular dungeon-exploring adventure series that started on the Nintendo Entertainment System, has inspired and influenced several game designers over the years. For example, many developers incorporate the top-down action experiences because this perspective allows players to not only visually see the tiny hero but also the environment. Henceforth, Still Games’s indie project called Animal Gods has a similar basic aesthetic at Kickstarter.
According to the developers, the story takes place in the 15th century BC (Bronze Age Europe) when the female warrior named Thistle began her journey. As Thistle, the player must fight with a variety of (close range or long range) weapons against various cursed creatures in many dungeons or across open paths when exploring the world. Having this open world design is also an important aspect to Still Games’ design philosophy; basically, they want their game to not just be beautiful but also offer a huge amount of exploration.
Unexpectedly though, these individuals are Nintendo developers who are also currently creating a Wii-U version. So why the hell are they crowd-funding this particular project? They explain that the targeted goal for $26,000 will be funneled primarily into development itself. In the end, personal computer owners will have an opportunity to play this colorful title for Windows, Mac, and Linux machines.
