NetherRealm Studios’ Mortal Kombat X will have new details revealed on the online multiplayer and the latest character to join the fighting title’s 24-character roster on January 2nd, 2015, GamesMaster magazine has announced.

The UK-based magazine posted the news regarding Mortal Kombat X on their Facebook page, with GamesMaster’s upcoming issue featuring interviews with the development team and a hands-on preview with the title.

The multiplayer mode in fighting titles has become increasingly more important for developers to take into consideration with the rise of eSports, and Ed Boon, creative director on Mortal Kombat X, said that competitive tournaments are “always on our agenda” when they develop a new game.

Earlier this month, Shaun Himmerick, executive producer on Mortal Kombat X, had confirmed at PlayStation Experience that most of the character models are “finished” and the title will be heading towards the final development stage next month.

With Ferra/Torr, Cassie Cage, Kotal Kahn, D’Vorah, Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Raiden, Kano and Quan Chi having been revealed over the course of the year, ongoing rumours have been circulating as to who the next fighter in the roster will be — specifically on the returning combatant, of course — with Ermac, Kenshi, Liu Kang and Sheeva being the current frontrunners.

Running at 1080p and 60fps, Mortal Kombat X will launch on April 14th, 2015 for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
