Moto X2 or Sony Xperia Z2 – Compare and Analyse Before Buying

by GH Staff

Motorola had been taken a beating for a quite some time from brands like Nokia and Sony along with the new entrants in the market like Micromax. But its tie-up with Google has enabled it to label all its devices the ‘original android phones’. Motorola has certainly made a come-back and is giving brands like Sony a run for their money. But it’s not just the latest android feature which is making the Motorola devices an attractive buy. Motorola has introduced a lot of innovations in mobile phone technology and incorporated several new features in its devices. The latest example of one such stellar phone by Motorola is the Moto X2. With its prices recently slashed, the Moto X2 is giving direct competition to Sony’s Xperia Z2 and a comparison of the two becomes necessary.

Display

Both Xperia Z2 and Moto X2 come with a 5.2 inch display screen. However, Sony has always been known for its captivating lense technology which outclasses its competitors. No wonder, with use of Sony’s proprietary technologies like Triluminous display and X-Reality engine, the Xperia Z2 certainly becomes a better phone as far as clarity of display and sharpness of resolution is concerned. The enhanced screen brightness is also a plus point as it enables the user to view the display even in bright sunlight. The Z2 is also water and dust resistant which makes it a sturdy and durable phone while the X2 appears comparatively fragile. With a 8.2 mm thickness, Z2 is slimmer and sleeker than the Moto X2 which is 10 mm thick making it an overall better looking phone.

Memory and Connectivity

Xperia Z2 again is at an advantage with respect to the memory. Sadly, Motorola has not introduced an external memory slot for the X2 which makes the user feel stuck with the in-built memory space with no scope for expansion. On the other hand, Z2 has 16 GB of internal storage but it can be expanded upto 128 GB. The Moto X2 also lacks some basic features with respect to connectivity like wi-fi direct which may not be a concern for some buyers but others might be swayed in favour of Z2 which does have this feature.

Processor

The Motorola X2 is built on a faster processor of 2.3 GHz quad core as compared to Sony Xperia’s Snapdragon quad core which clocks in at 2.1 GHz. There is also a big difference in the RAM size. Motorola X2 runs on a 2 GB RAM while the Z2 has 3 GB RAM. The bigger RAM size of the Sony Z2 would more than make up for its slightly slower processor and all in all the device would be as fast and smooth in operation as the Moto X2. In fact, with a 3 GB RAM, Z2 also supports the small apps feature which can be accessed through recent tasks. On the other hand, Motorola X2 offers better support to voice activated features which may make it a better option for some buyers.

Price

Both the X2 and Z2 are available in the same price range since Moto X2’s prices were recently slashed down to $550 following the release of Sony’s Z3.
