Motorola To Develop $50 Smartphone

The Moto G is a steal at its off-contract price of $179. But Motorola is not done with driving down the price of smartphones in the market. CEO Dennis Woodside in an interview with Trusted Reviews stated that they would be pushing for an even cheaper phone.

“In much of the world $179 is a lot of money, so there’s a big market at a price point of less than $179. We’re going to look at that, and just delivering on that value promise is super important. I mean, why can’t these devices be $50? There’s no reason that can’t happen, so we’re going to push that.”

moto gThe Moto G has already shown what Motorola can offer. With a quad-core processor and a 4.5-inch screen, the phone is a cut above its competition in the same price range. For instance, the Samsung Galaxy Fame has a single core processor and a smaller 3.5-inch screen, but costs as much as the Moto G!

They are more interested in getting people online increasing their user-base. More Google users mean more ad revenue. And if Google is aggressive enough to go after low-end phone users, a substantial subsidy could be in for Motorola.
