Murdered: Soul Suspect 'Buried' Trailer

While there’s still a little more than three months left until the initial 6/3 release date of Murdered: Soul Suspect, PlayStation’s official blog divulged new information in regards to some of the development team’s efforts on the project. And, of course, made room for another trailer. The thriller’s newest addition is known simply as Murdered: Soul Suspect ‘Buried’ trailer, which implies to more of the ominous secrets prowling Salem’s streets. The footage shows new areas, debut characters, and holds some overall plot significance. Airtight Games Chief Creative Officer Matt Brunner and Senior Design Producer Eric Studer were able to communicate about their visions for the upcoming action-adventure title; explaining each step (and misstep) into Murdered: Soul Suspect‘s production.

“We started with the core concept of a ghost game,” said Matt Brunner. While it got the team at Airtight Games hyped; the concept of having a ghost-like figure mixing with upfront combat–“didn’t really feel ghostly as much as it felt like a transparent, floaty noir superhero who could fight with something that almost looked like magic.”

So out the door goes that idea, and in comes the spark of inspiration that lead to the birth of our familiar ghost detective, Ronan O’Connor. The Chief Creative Officer also commented on the multiple stages that inspired Ronan’s character, “I personally read a number of books after we came upon this thread that involved ghosts interacting with the living such as Neil Gaiman’s The Graveyard Book, ” said Matt. “These helped hone in on what felt true for a character in these circumstances, rather than what felt cool.”  From that snippet is safe to assume that Ronan’s abilities will become limited postmortem, but it’ll create opportunities for more paranormal involvement.

Moving right alongside the horror aspect of the game, Eric Studer explained the process behind Murdered: Soul Suspect‘s demonic entities. “Enemies are crucial for us because they provide a much needed pacing breaker,” stated the Design Producer. Choosing to focus on an investigation would abandon the numerous possibilities for Airtight Games’ expansion on the unique action-adventure thriller.

In the end, Murdered: Soul Suspect is going for an immersive encounter with the player. One last remark from the development team was, “our hope is that players will feel empowered to explore every nook and cranny of the world and discover everything we’ve hidden around Salem.” And there is no doubt that there’ll be a lot of exploration involved. Between battling demons, investigating murders, and coming to terms with your death; there’s a lot to look forward to this summer.

Murdered: Soul Suspect will be available on the PS3 and PS4 in North America on June 3, 2014. Europe will receive the game on June 6, 2014.
