All You Need to Know About The New iOS 8.1.1

by GH Staff

The iOS 8 released by Apple was a long awaited update to the existing Operating System. And it was definitely worth the wait as it completely overhauled the look and design of the previous version while adding numerous new features. However, there were bound to be a number of bugs and other issues with this completely new iOS experience. And true enough, the developers soon got to work fixing the bugs. A week later, Apple launched the iOS 8.0.1 which unfortunately was even more problematic than its predecessor. Consequently, after an interval of a couple of months, the windows iOS 8.1 was released which addressed many of the annoying problems faced by the users with the iOS 8.

Sadly, though, the 8.1 iOS is still far from perfect. Though it did resolve some major issues, it was still riddled with bugs which prevented smooth operation of applications and left many users frustrated. Some of the problems being complained about were related to Bluetooth connectivity, issues with Wi-Fi, performance of safari browser and battery drain. In an effort to further clear out these bugs in as efficient a way as possible, Apple announced the launch of iOS 8.1.1 beta. Apple Insiders have said that this beta version is being launched specifically to further fix the bugs and mishaps of the iOS 8 which could not be addressed in the 8.1 update. It is also said to carry with it various performance enhancement features like speed and fluidity, though no specific details have been given.

It must be kept in mind that 8.1.1 is a considerably minor update as compared to the switch over to iOS 8 from iOS 7. Also, since it specifically focuses on fixing the problems of the 8.0 and 8.1 updates, one can hardly expect it to incorporate any new features. The big improvements are usually reserved for the major updates. It is rumored that the next major update of the iOS would include improvement to Maps and split-screen multitasking for iPhone users. It is too much to hope that a beta update would incorporate such improvements. If it does, well, that will be a bonus. But in the meantime, one can’t really hope for an earth shattering new experience with the 8.1.1 update.

As far as the availability of the 8.1.1 beta iOS is concerned, it will be made available on all devices which support the iOS 8. In fact, it is available not only for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6Plus but also for the older versions of iPhone like iPhone 5, iPhone 5C and iPhone 4S. The users of iPhone 4S and iPad 2 have an even better reason to look forward to this update since it has been developed to especially provide more support to these two devices in fixing all the issues faced by the users with the iOS 8. However, a word of caution is necessary for those who are planning to jailbreak their iPhone 6 or iPhone 5S. IOS 8.1.1 is said to have plugged the exploits used by Pangu jailbreak and therefore one installed on your device, that option will no longer be available to you.
