A watch is a timeless piece, get it? So it is no wonder that everyone is trying to reinvent the watch to a more modern upgrade by wearing your smartphone on your wrist. This isn’t Samsung’s first smartwatch, but this newest addition has provided a more wearable and easier to navigate gadget.

In 2013, Samsung was the No. 1 ranked company for the highest sales for Samsung products.  They introduced Samsung Galaxy Gear, their first smartwatch, but it didn’t take with the rest of the market. So now that have upgraded some of the specs and the design, hoping to make Samsung Galaxy Gear 2 a hit.

The biggest upgrade to Gear 2, compared to its predecessor, is they have replaced the Android system with Tizen. A Samsung developed operating system used to improve the streamline design, and used with Samsung S Health software, a good battery life, and integrated music player. The design was also improved to place the camera on the watch interface, and added optical heart rate sensor, and infrared blaster.

However, both Gear smartwatches are similar in design. The Gear 2 steel exterior, and the Neo version that doesn’t come with a camera is made of plastic.

The 1.0 GHz dual-core processor is run on the Exynos 3250 system on chip, for a better version. The screen has improved to 320 pixels on the square-shaped 1.63 inch, Super AMOLED touchscreen, with 4GB of internal storage, and 512 MB of RAM. At the bottom of the Gear 2 is the optical heart rate sensor, and with a 300 mAH battery offers a lasting battery life. However, the new version has to be put in a micro USB charging case because it has not port for charging.

Tizen, the Linux-based operating system developed by Samsung, replaces the Android operating system of the Galaxy Gear. The Smart Relay is used that helps in syncing notifications to the Gear screen from the host device. You can make voice commands with the S Voice, and input an automated voice message to locate the host device and answer calls. The new Galaxy Gear 2 offers more apps such as WatchOn, an integrated music player, where you can store songs on the internal storage, and S Health.

The Gear 2 also comes with the Gear Manager App that helps locate your contacts, install more apps, and customize your straps. You can choose which apps you want your Gear 2 screen to receive notifications for, perform backups, and customize your wallpaper.

The new gadget from Samsung overall is making the new Galaxy Gear 2 a worthwhile purchase. So go check it out!
