With the big gaming conference right around the corner, you can bet that studios from around the world are going to get into the idea of raising hype for their personal event. NetherRealm is no different, and although we’ve gotten no legitimate schedule from the base studio, Ed Boone, the creator of Mortal Kombat in 2012 has begun to post hints on his personal Twitter to an inevitable countdown. He was spotted earlier taking questions on the last (and supposedly next) installment of the Mortal Kombat series. Some curious inquiries were answered seriously, and others seemed to dictate a light teasing note.
RT @pulsedhalo @noobde How can U honestly make a new MK game better than the last one? It's not possible. EB: OK, then we're done! Peace!

But the heavy implication on Mortal Kombat rather than Injustice: Gods Among Us has not gone unnoticed. IGN were the first to take notice of the pattern and decoded Ed Boone’s elusive countdown. At the moment, there has been two tweets posted: one asks the square root of 841, which the equation leads out to 29. The following asked how many days are in February when it isn’t a leap year, which is 28. It doesn’t take a genius to implore that something is happening under the rug. Rather then publicly announcing a title, or generating a bunch of hype for one of the projects previously maintained by NetherRealm studio, the approach is a rather refreshing one to the constant bustle that encompasses E3’s presence.
At this rate, we should see the countdown expire around June 2nd. Which should be a date familiar to gaming enthusiasts as the next introduction to E3 2014. But could it be another Mortal Kombat game, or is it that NetherRealm studios’ heavily implied instance of Injustice: Gods Among Us, which also has been the subject of various sequel rumors?
Sources are still raging this debate, but fact of the matter is: something is coming from NetherRealm studios. We have no ulterior means to estimate which project it might be, but multiple sources have their own belief as to what we can expect. Whether it’s going to be unveiled at E3 2014, or if it could appear earlier than the requested date is still unknown. But if you’re itching for an opinion, it’ll most likely follow the intended path of evasive inklings in the field of media and then allow a sudden press release. Due to Ed Boone’s constant comments on the Mortal Kombat franchise, we’re going to assume that it is an addition to the well-awaited Mortal Kombat reboot of 2011.
Stay tuned in for the next developments of the project and constant posts from Ed Boone as we continue to follow NetherRealms trail for 2014. Feel free to comment and tell us your intuitive ideas, hopes, and concerns as a potential customer for the next game to hit retail locations this coming year.
