The upcoming Alien: Isolation game is not one that takes the notion of horror lightly. It wants to do justice to the original Ridley Scott directed Alien movie, and based on all visual elements revealed, it most likely will. Every single detail shows a ship ravaged by one mean Xenomorph. The technology featured in the game remains true to the technology showcased in the first Alien movie, so instead of fancy sci-fi gadgets and tech, you’ll be seeing small-resolution CRT screens and regular tools. The ship in itself gives off a certain vibe that creates a vivid image of an industrial ship. Sterile environments seen in other Sci-Fi films or games (Star Wars, Start Trek, etc.) give way to rust and darkness. That’s not to say that the areas in Alien: Isolation aren’t properly decorated, it’s just that instead of a coat of white paint and bright lights, it’s filled with the guts and remains of some very unfortunate engineers.
The Xenomorph looks absolutely fantastic and terrifying, and Alien: Isolation will be more about hiding and running from one imposing threat, rather than blasting your way through countless and meaningless waves of idiotic enemies (yes Alien: Colonial Marines, we’re talking about you!). Ridley Scott’s Alien became a true classic in the horror sci-fi genre, and based on all visual evidence, Alien: Isolation will do the same for the game franchise, a franchise that hasn’t given us a proper horror game in a long, long time. Creative Assembly is developing Alien: Isolation for all major platforms, mainly the Playstation 3, Playstation 4, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC. It’s set for a late 2014 release.
