New Gearbox Title Will Be Announced This Year

by GH Staff
Gearbox Software, Borderlands, New IP

It looks like fans will be hearing an announcement for a new Gearbox title in 2014. The CEO of Gearbox Software, Randy Pitchford, has announced via Twitter that Gearbox will be announcing their next generation title later this year; but he cannot give away any further details, including the game’s platforms.

Now, this tweet was in response to a fan’s question and it shows this recent trend of connectivity on Twitter between fans and developers. But this begs the question what are the next-generation titles that he is tweeting about; it cannot be another Borderlands game because in February Pitchford claimed that they were not working on another entry in that series. Gearbox Software is already working on Homeworld Remastered Collection, the mysteriously disappearing Furious 4, Brothers in Arms: Battle of the Bulge, and supposedly two brand new IPs: in February, Pitchford stated “I’m building two original IPs for next-gen. I can’t personally invest myself wholly in all of these things.” And it seems his recent tweet was talking about these previously mentioned original IPs.

Now, the main question is will this new gearbox title be a spin off from a popular series or will this be an entirely new franchise? And unless they have been lying about the development of Borderlands 3, these new titles probably have nothing to do with the next Borderlands entry. However, being that Borderlands 2 has become 2K Games’ highest selling game ever, another sequel is inevitable.

What do you think of this new Gearbox title? Do you think the recent quality of Gearbox games is any indication of the new IPs? For any updates, please continue to read Gamer Headlines.
