The internet has been abuzz with headlines of a new release date having been leaked for the upcoming Metal Gear Solid installment, Metal Gear Solid V: Phantom Pain.
A number of outlets are reporting that retailers such as Microsoft’s own online store (along with the testimony of a professed inventory manager at a popular retail store) have outlined Phantom Pain’s new launch date to be on Tuesday, February 24th, 2015. Previously, the game’s placeholder release date was listed as Wednesday, December 31, 2013.

“I work at a popular retail store as their inventory manager. I always check to see if the date changes periodically and it was always 12/31/2014. Today it switched and i think I cracked the code,” claims Reddit user mikefancypants.
Online retailers like SmartGameShopper and Rakuten have also listed the same date for the game, but all that’s solidly known at this time is that Phantom Pain is slated to release in 2015.
However, in little way of actual confirmation of a February, 2015 release, more wary players are more skeptical of this supposedly leaked release date, tossing it up as another placeholder due it being “too early”.
Although, it’s not been the first time that a February release for Phantom Pain has been circulating around, as rumors of such a date surfaced back in October. Specifically, a Sony employee, who supposedly has strong tie to a Konami representative, “accidentally” let slip that the game would release as early as February, 2015.
Another thing to consider is that it’s also been previously rumored that Phantom Pain may release in late-June next year, according to a translation of Swedish text that was teased on Hideo Kojima’s t-shirt during this year’s recent The Game Awards event.
Whilst we know for a fact that Metal Gear Solid V: Phantom Pain is slated to release at some point in 2015, the specifics of which are still up in the air at this time. In the mean time, it’s best to take this “new” release date with a pinch of salt.
