Skype has probably emerged as the most popular app for video calling. When it was launched, it was perceived as a boon for people who live in different cities or even different countries. Not only did Skype enable such people to cut down their phone bills but also provided a variety of other features which made online communication all the more easy and interactive. Many other video calling apps were created and launched in the market subsequent to the launch of Skype but neither of them have garnered as big a fan support as Skype has. However, contrary to popular belief, Skype is not exclusively meant for video calling. Here are some features of Skype which you must explore if you are already using the app.
Send videos, photos and audio files via Skype
Skype does not only enable voice and video chats but users can also send multimedia files like photographs and audio as well as video files via Skype. This feature is especially beneficial for business communication among companies or individuals located in different cities. Often, a particular chart or diagram or project report might have to be shared instantly to get your point across to the person with whom you are chatting on Skype. Similarly, even for conveying personal messages, multimedia files often come handy. The procedure of sending a file through Skype couldn’t be easier. Simply open the conversation tab of the person who you want to send the file to, select the “send” option, browse through your computer files and just click the right file to send.
Change Notification settings
Skype developers have aspired to make online communication as user friendly as possible by allowing them to customize the notification settings according to their needs. The settings can be accessed through the tool bar on the bottom of the screen which contains the “notifications” option under the “options” tab. One can now change the notification settings to allow Skype to send them push messages as to when their friends came online or went offline as well as notify them of a new incoming message or a previously saved event like a birthday or business meeting. Make sure that the settings are saved before exiting the notifications tab. Many users may not use this feature of Skype but it is definitely helpful for people who keep a tight schedule in remembering their appointments and events.
Add to Favourites option
The number of people using Skype has swelled to hundreds of millions all over the world. Any Skype user is sure to have more than 50 contacts in his Skype contact address book. However, there are only a few specific persons whom a user talks to on a regular basis. It can be quite harassing to search for these contacts among the hundreds of contacts listed on Skype on a daily basis. To overcome this difficulty, Skype has the option of creating a Favourites list wherein the contacts which are contacted very frequently can be saved by simply right clicking on the name of the person who you want to add to the favourites list and then clicking on “Add to favourites”.
