New Wolfenstein: The New Order trailer reveals stealth mechanics

Let’s face it, B.J. Blazkowitz was never Sam Fisher. Stealth and refinement were not his style, blowing off heads while dual-wielding shotguns were more up his alley. Or so we were led to believe. Bethesda is contesting the previous Wolfenstein canon with The New Order’s new trailer, a trailer that reveals a stealthy, more calculated protagonist. That’s not to say Blazkowitz is afraid of spilling Nazi blood, but lockpicks, silenced pistols and knives to the throat take the place of loud rifles and rocket launchers. Or well, at least partially.

If you feel reminiscent of the good old days of mindless shooting, fear not. Mayhem is still on the table, and if you don’t fancy sneaking around, you can still blast your way through waves of varying Nazi soldiers. As seen in the recent Wolfenstein: The New Order trailer, Blazkowitz isn’t exactly out of shape, despite being relatively old by now. He can still dual-wield shotguns, assault rifles and…sniper rifles? Yup, what’s better than shooting two sniper rifles at the same time? Who needs accuracy when you have the power to shoot off multiple limbs at the same time.

In any case, this new Wolfenstein trailer does show some fun gameplay, and only makes the wait until the 20th of May (when Wolfenstein is being released) that much harder. Visually the game looks terrific, and while some effects are slightly over-used and over-the-top (in under 3 minutes, we’ve seen more Nazis disintegrated than we could count), they do manage to bring back some very good memories. The New Order will be released for the Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, PS4 and PC. Pre-ordering the game will still land you beta access to the upcoming Doom game’s beta, but when exactly that will be taking place remains unknown.
