A lot of people look at Nintendo and think of them as a children’s version of a gaming console, with games often targeted towards family’s or younger players. This is true for the most part, and doesn’t mean that they don’t offer any quality gaming titles, rather that fans of the horror genre would have to look elsewhere for their edge-of-your-seat fix. Wii U’s launch title ‘ZombieU’ really came as a shock to a lot of gamers when it was announced. It was gore, suspenseful, and filled to the brim with jump scares.
It seems as though we’re getting another dose of hair-raising entertainment as Nintendo Japan has just announced the arrival of what is sure to be one of the biggest hits the Wii U’s seen in it’s short life. Fatal Frame: The Black Haired Shrine Maiden was officially announced by Koei Tecmo producer Keisuke Kikuchi at last night’s NikoNiko Live with a debut trailer that oozes horror out of it’s pores.
The trailer can be seen above but features a young protagonist, Yuri Kozukata, who has the unique ability to take people from the spirit world and bring them back into the that of the living. She’s hired by a mysterious client to bring back a specific spirit and heads into the mountains to find them.
The Wii U’s tablet will play an integral role in the game, allowing players to see things they cannot on the television screen. The Wii U’s camera will apparently also be used quite a bit as both a legitimate camera as well as some sort of defense mechanism against the various spirits players will encounter.
Jump scare in 3…2…Fatal Frame: The Black Haired Shrine Maiden is set for release in Japan September 27, 2014. No word on a North American release as of yet but we’ll keep you posted.
