Nintendo Direct 2015: Wii Games to be Downloadable on Wii U

by GH Staff

During Nintendo’s first Nintendo Direct of 2015, Nintendo confirmed that Wii games would be heading to the Wii U eShop as downloadable titles.

The first wave of titles announced will all be released throughout the month of January and include the following:

  • Super Mario Galaxy 2 – Available Today
  • Punch Out – Available January 22nd
  • Metroid Prime Trilogy – Available January 29th

All of the titles will be available at a 50% discount during their first week of availability. Also, all downloadable Wii titles that utilized the Wii Classic Controller will be able to use the Wii U Gamepad as an alternative controller.

At the moment the titles mentioned above were the only ones announced, with Nintendo hopefully announcing more Wii downloadable titles in the near future.

This is the fourth major past Nintendo console to receive downloadable game support on the Wii U, with the console already having NES, SNES, and Game Boy Advance titles available on the eShop.
