Nintendo’s recent struggles have been well documented. Aside from the 3DS, which has dominated the handheld market, Nintendo has struggled to keep up with Sony and Microsoft. As Nintendo continues to search for marketable options for the Wii U, a new development has peaked the interest of Nintendo fans: the possibility that remakes might be the way to go moving forward.
As Nintendo’s frustration with its competition grows- particularly from the free-to-play sector- their new focus could lean heavily toward the remake of older games. Nintendo is infamous for the loyalty they have in their main franchises. No other company relies so heavily on their exclusive titles as Nintendo. With the gamer demographic constantly aging, the Japanese company will likely attempt to appeal to those who grew up with the SNES, Nintendo 64, and the GameCube.
While there are gamers out there who are certainly excited about new, upcoming Wii U titles, there’s also no shortage of those who seek a nostalgic kick. Those who grew up with Nintendo are licking their lips in anticipation for HD remakes of titles like The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s mask, Jet Force Gemini, or Super Mario World 64. Currently, Nintendo has failed to announce which games, if any, will release as HD remakes, but there are rumors swirling around gamer networks nonetheless.
In the event that Nintendo does decide to remake a number of successful old games, which games would you like see remade? The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask tops my list with the hope of some interesting new content additions in the future.
