Nintendo is NOT going mobile

by GH Staff

Ever since Nintendo released a mobile only version of their official website rumors have been going around the web about future plans of the company to enter the smartphone and tablet gaming market. However, a few days ago Japan’s official Nikkei business daily reported that Nintendo is planning to leverage the mobile platform via free mini-games.

Although the information included in Nikkei’s report was featured around things said in past press conferences by Mr. Iwata, the logic was pretty solid. As news spread quickly, Nintendo turned to Engadget and made an official statement in regard to the issue. The company said that Nikkei’s article includes statements ‘which relate to Nintendo’s willingness to make use of smart devices to promote’ their products, but ‘during such past announcements Mr. Iwata has also stated that Nintendo’s intention is not to make Nintendo software available on smart devices’ and they officially denied any future plans ‘to offer mini-games on smartphone devices.’ After the statement Nikkei’s article was quickly taken down.

This is not surprising as Nintendo’s main focus has always releasing and designing games for their consoles only. Yet with the failure of the Wii U fans and the public alike are waiting in anticipation for an unexpected move by the company that will eventually result in a rousing success.
