While Performance Digital Products is working with Nintendo to create a GameCube inspired controller for the Wii U, GameCube controller fans received some ever better news. Today, Nintendo officially announced via Twitter a GameCube adapter for the Wii U so Super Smash Bros players can still use their original GameCube controllers to compete. In addition to the news regarding the GameCube controller, Nintendo also revealed some more information about the Super Smash Bros Invitational. which is a Wii U tournament that will be held during E3 on June 10th. Nintendo stated that “Players will select a single character for the whole tournament from a limited roster through a special draft,”
Of course, this information is all related, as Nintendo told participants that they can use a GameCube controller to compete. It’s still unclear as to how the GameCube adapter will be sold. Will it come packaged with the newest Super Smash Bros? Or will it be sold as a separate peripheral? Nintendo hasn’t made a comment yet. However, many Super Smash Bros fans can take comfort knowing that they will feel right at home with the newest installment in the series, thanks to the special new GameCube controller adapter.

Let us know if this at all increases your excitement for the newest Super Smash Bros. Personally, I was nervous, as this was going to be the first time in roughly 10 years that I would have to play Super Smash Bros without the aid of a GameCube controller. While the GameCube controller may be the more competitive choice for playing, it certainly isn’t the only option. Super Smash Bros Brawl gave players the ability to use the Wii remote and Nunchuck, or just use the Wii remote independently. However, to most gamers, they feel most comfortable using the classic GameCube controller, and they’ll be happy to know that they still can.
