Nintendo of America confirmed three more games are joining the Game Boy – Nintendo Classics app on October 27. Avenging Spirit, Mole Mania, and Pinball: Revenge of the ‘Gator arrive for Nintendo Switch Online members, according to a post from Nintendo of America. The three games sit in the base Nintendo Switch Online membership, so players do not need the Expansion Pack tier. The trio draws on three different developers: Nintendo, Jaleco, and HAL Laboratory.
The drop continues Nintendo’s steady rollout of retro content for Switch Online. Earlier additions brought Donkey Kong, Mario, and Animal Crossing content, and a recent handheld update followed with Mario Kart: Super Circuit.
Mole Mania is the headline draw
Mole Mania is the marquee name of the three. Nintendo published the Game Boy puzzle game in July 1996 in Japan and February 1997 in North America, with Shigeru Miyamoto as producer. The player controls Muddy Mole, who digs tunnels and solves spatial puzzles to rescue his family from the farmer Jinbe. The game has a two-layer world. Muddy digs beneath the surface to find paths that do not exist above ground, and each stage pushes a black ball to the exit gate. A wrong dig can reset a puzzle, so the challenge sits in planning the route before committing to it.
The title has carried cult status since its 2012 re-release on the Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console. Nintendo’s own listing describes it as an action-puzzle game where Muddy digs beneath the surface to uncover new paths, with bonus stages where players get their own back on Jinbe. Miyamoto’s name draws players in, and the design holds up on its own. It is the only Nintendo-developed game in the October 27 group.
Avenging Spirit and Pinball: Revenge of the ‘Gator
Avenging Spirit is Jaleco’s 1992 Game Boy port of a 1991 arcade platformer. The hero is killed by a crime syndicate and returns as a ghost, and the core mechanic is possession. Players take over enemies and use each host’s own abilities, which changes what the player can do from room to room. Six stages run to the rescue of the hero’s girlfriend. The Game Boy version is a conversion of the 1991 arcade original, but the possession loop still reads as a distinctive platforming twist three decades later.
Pinball: Revenge of the ‘Gator is the oldest of the three, developed by HAL Laboratory and published by Nintendo for the Game Boy’s 1989 lineup. It reached North America and Europe in 1990. The game has four main tables and three bonus tables around an alligator theme, with solo and two-player modes. That puts a score-driven arcade option next to the puzzle and platforming picks. The two arcade-style titles reward reflexes and score chasing, while Mole Mania rewards planning.
A base-tier catalog refresh
The three games span three points in Game Boy history: a 1989 HAL Laboratory pinball, a 1992 Jaleco arcade port, and a 1996 Miyamoto puzzle game. All three land in the Game Boy – Nintendo Classics app, the consolidated home for Game Boy and Game Boy Color titles on Switch.
Nintendo did not name a release time or any future additions in the post, so the October 27 date and the three titles are the full confirmed scope for now.
