Upon purchase of a new technological gadget – whether it be the latest phone, the slickest tablet, or, in this case, a Nintendo Wii U – most people expect that, as an end user of the respective product, it should work as intended without fear of losing its functionality for any reason whatsoever (besides human/hardware error).
However, in a rather curious case related to Nintendo and its fairly young Wii U game console, it seems that the company renders the Wii U useless if its owner decides not to agree to Nintendo’s latest update to its end-user license agreement ( also known as EULA).
A YouTuber, AMurderofCrows, did just that. He did not particularly like the terms of Nintendo’s latest EULA update, and subsequently refused to agree to it (As a side note: In most cases. users can refuse EULA/software updates, and can continue to use the respective device as before), expecting to possibly miss out on new features or online capabilities – but as previously mentioned – keep on using the Nintendo Wii U as he always had before the EULA update.
Yet, in this case, the EULA did not give an option to decline the update. In turn, the Wii U blocks any of the user’s attempts to play games or access saved information, instead redirecting the user to the EULA update indefinitely.
If a Nintendo Wii U owner desires to regain total functionality of the game console, he or she must agree to the new EULA.
