The Federal Aviation Administration just stopped Lakemaid Brewery from sending their beer through a drone-delivery system. Said parcel would have been sent to fishermen somewhere in the Mille Lacs Lake. The order to ground the drones is due to the fact that it is illegal for drones to be used commercially in the United States. Furthermore, such vehicles are not permitted to fly above 400 feet.
At this time, only hobbyists are allowed to fly unmanned aerial vehicles. Such permission is limited too. They cannot use the drones for profit and users should follow local and federal laws. For example, they cannot fly the drone over a populated area.
While commercial use of drones could be popular in the near future, the FAA is still working on rules and regulations reading their use. For the time being then, drones like the Lakemaid can still deliver cold beer to those fishermen but they have to do it for free.
