Xbox One Continues To Fall Behind Playstation 4
In the heated next gen console wars, it’s always interesting to look at sales numbers and see if the competition is heating up or simply becoming one sided. For the fourth month in a row, Playstation 4 has been outselling the Xbox One, according to the NDP report. However not all is lost for the Xbox One. In fact, the Xbox One has been outpacing the Xbox 360 in the first six months by nearly 76 percent. In addition to the 115,000 Xbox One’s sold in April, Microsoft also sold 71,000 Xbox 360’s. Microsoft claims that is more than the Playstation 3 or the Wii sales for the month. Although the Playstation 4 may have been the top selling hardware for the month, the top selling software was actually an Xbox (and PC) exclusive, Titanfall. The NPD reported that software sales f0r the next gen consoles look to be promising, and that we should see an increase in sales in the coming months. Despite this, software were down 10 percent this year compared to this time last year, however this isn’t something that should be seen as troubling.
Regarding software sales for the next gen consoles, the press release issued states:
“PS4 software combined with Xbox One software sales are up over 40 percent compared to sales of the PS3 and Xbox 360 through their first six months,” the report continued. Even software for the beleaguered Wii U, which has struggled since its launch in 2012, was doing better than last year, with year-over-year sales up by more than 80 percent. That’s likely due at least in part to the install base for the system simply being bigger that ever before.”
The NPD’s list for top ten games of April 2014 are as follows:
The full top-ten (which includes collector’s editions and the like, but not software bundled with hardware) follows below:
- Titanfall (360, XBO, PC)
- Call Of Duty: Ghosts (360, PS4, PS3, XBO, NWU, PC)
- NBA 2K14 (360, PS4, PS3, XBO, PC)
- Minecraft (360)
- LEGO The Hobbit (360, PS3, One, PS4, 3DS, NWU, PSV)
- The LEGO Movie Videogame (360, 3DS, PS3, NWU, XBO, PS4, PSV)
- Lego Marvel Super Heroes(360, PS3, NDS, 3DS, PS4, NWU, XBO, PSV, PC)
- The Amazing Spiderman 2(PS4, 360, PS3, NWU, 3DS)
- Grand Theft Auto V (360, PS3)
- Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag (360, PS3, PS4, XBO, NWU, PC)
So there you have it. While the PS4 hasn’t had much trouble keeping ahead of the competition, that doesn’t mean the Xbox One isn’t doing well on its own.In fact I wouldn’t be surprised if after E3 and the release of the Xbox One without Kinect, we will see the gap tighten between the two consoles. Only time will tell who will come out on top.
