Recently, prominent global technology company, Nvidia, had its earnings call –  during which they revealed record-breaking earnings (most likely due to their well-received GTX GeForce 900 series of graphics cards), alongside further elaboration on what may be next for the company.

During the aforementioned earnings call, Nvidia chief executive officer Jen-Hsun Huang discussed various facets of the gaming platforms currently available, and interestingly enough, stated that the “hey days of the past” are over for consoles.

Furthermore, he said that PC is the world’s largest game platform, and briefly touched on the benefits of owning a gaming PC.

Nvidia CEO – “PC is the world’s largest game platform”

A question was directed towards to Jen-Hsun Huang during the earnings call regarding Nvidia’s cycle as compared to those of current-generation gaming consoles. His reply was fairly interesting, albeit expected, coming from the chief executive officer of Nvidia.

In his response, Huang stated that while there was definitely a time when game consoles were the best way to enjoy video games, that time has passed.

He also went on to say that the price of owning a gaming PC is attractive due to the fact that many people in countries all over the world already own a PC, and that it can be upgraded multiple times across the years without changing the basic platform.

You can read Jen-Hsung’s response below:

“…my sense is that the game console platform is not likely to enjoy the hey days when it was really unambiguously the only and the best game platform to enjoy games. It’s just not true anymore. There are just too many other ways to enjoy games.”

PC has become the world’s largest game platform. China, as well as other developing countries around the world, PC is a piece of platform they already own. They can upgrade it two, three, four times without having to change the basic platform. So, the total of cost of ownership of a game PC is quite attractive.
