Pokémon is one of the longest running, most universally adored, generation crossing titles of the video games industry to date, with every new release offering vast improvements, new features and dizzying the community with excitement. Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, the two newest additions scheduled for release on the 3DS late this year, are no different.
Recent issues of CoroCoro have teased many different upcoming details for the new titles, but one particular feature appears to have captured our hearts and attention, and has the community buzzing with speculation. Cosplay Pikachu was shown for the first time a short while ago within the pages of the comic, and now official artwork of the Pokémon has been dropped by Nintendo – showing off every fine detail of these incredible designs.
Pikachu can now take on a multitude of different looks, which many speculate could coincide either with contests, similar to those we saw in Heart Gold and Soul Silver, or with the continued use of the Pokémon Amie feature debuted in Pokémon X and Y. The outfits will include Pikachu Belle, Pikachu Libre, Pikachu Pop Star, Pikachu Rock Star and Pikachu PHD.
These new outfits are ridiculously cute, although it’s looking as though the new cosplay feature may well be limited only to the franchise’s mascot. It’ll be an unsurprising but disappointing move; hopefully the popularity of this amazing little touch will spur developers to offer an expanded wardrobe of ‘Poké-wear’ in future titles, as many players would dive at the opportunity to personalise the Pokémon they have loved since 1998.
I sure would love to see my favourite Pokémon, Haunter, with a couple of cute outfits like this!
