PewDiePie permanently disables comment section

by GH Staff

It seems like even some of the biggest, most popular Youtube gamers are sick of the filth that is YouTube comments. PewDiePie has announced that he will be removing comments from his ridiculously popular channel, recently passing 30 million subscribers. Let that number sink in. Check out the video in which he announces this.

“I go to the comments, and it’s mainly spam, it’s people self-advertising, people that are trying to provoke, people who reply to all these… Just all this stuff that, to me, it doesn’t mean anything.”

“Doesn’t mean anything” pretty much sums it up. With over 30 million subscribers, it’s not a surprise that a lot of the comments and messages are spam, or just plain ol’ mean spirited comments. All of this is something that PewDiePie (Felix Kjellberg) has to wade through every single day.

In the video above, he states that he was on holiday. He returns to all the nice comments welcoming him back buried underneath troll comments, spam, and people trying to advertise their own stuff. While all of this is going on, YouTube hasn’t put anything in place to stop this kind of activity.

PewDiePie has tried to come up with certain solutions. Using a certain hashtag on Twitter, or commenting in a subreddit that he’s going to create. Although I don’t really see how this will stop the trolls, there might be less of them, sure, but they’ll still be there.

He’s still trying to figure out the best way to move forward:

“Still trying to figure out best way to go forward with the comments. So glad to see you bros support me with all this, really means a lot!”

One idea that sounds promising is allowing fans to comment if they donate to charity, although not only is this insanely complicated, but might annoy the fans. Why can’t fans comment without having to pay?

What do you guys think of this? Seeing how large his channel is, it’s understandable to not want to see the mountains of hate comments and trolls in the comments. Fair play to the man, I hate his videos personally, but totally understand his reasoning.
