Pinterest Acquires Media Partnership Manager of Google

by GH Staff

A strange turn of events resulted in Pinterest hiring a media partnership manager- Robert Macdonald, who was a Google employee in the same position until recently. He also served in similar positions in other companies, such as Scribd and Dstillery. Pinetrest is semmingly convinced that it is time they show some professional support to their publishers and come up with a more conductive environment in order for their partners to reach their desired public.

The first announcement of this new acquisition was made at the press event. There, the company’s spokesperson also talked about their future plans in the light of this event. He added that people at Pinterest are looking forward to form a bond with a number of publishers, traditional as well as digital. Since these publishers are already using their platform, it is their intent to support them even more.

Some of the recent reports indicate that Pinterest was greatly involved in referring for Buzzfeed (the only company who played a bigger role in that was Facebook). This came off as a big surprise for many people, since Facebook is known for its enormous potential in the social media and other aspects of the internet. Similar to Facebook, Pinterest is also interested in expanding their zone of influence and they aim to form a partner style relationship with Hollywood. Keeping this information in mind, we can speculate that the company is definitely aiming to grab the attention of people on all scales as well as communicate with various organizations (both small and big).

When it comes to their web site, Pinterest is quite different from both Facebook and Twitter. This site is not supposed to share news, but it is used as a tool for different companies to demonstrate their ideas, products and services through a new channel. All of the content you see there originates from publishers. They also have an enormous amount of images that can be shared by registered users. The company spokesperson said that they are aiming to provide a number of cross marketing and cross promotional options for the publishers.

Considering this is such a large company, it is surprising to me that Pinterest didn’t have media manager until now. Their web site is really big and is among the top ten in social media charts. As was mentioned before, this site focuses on providing specific information rather than covering new events. Also, their new site which features an updated design and layout has generated great interest among the users. It looks like they are aiming to move towards mobile platforms. Of course, this is bound to affect users who prefer to browse from their personal computers. On this matter, Pinterest’s spokesperson said that they are eagerly waiting to adapt themselves to the new changes and be the ones leading the market in that direction.

Overall, this new acquisition seems to be working very well for them and seems to have generated a lot of changes already. We can only speculate as to what it will bring in, say, a year from now.
